“Bringing home the global message”
“Bringing home the global message”
Marketing messages are often referenced across a whole range of collateral. The same statement of product benefits can appear in a brochure, datasheet, press advertisement, on the web and in support documentation. There is a huge benefit in translating and approving these messages only once both in terms of cost reduction and ensuring consistency, which is vital to effective marketing communications.
Although translation memory (TM) technology hasn't been around as long as Machine Translation (MT), it is as much a part of the translation process as the personal computer, providing an automated means of reusing approved localized content. However, like any software application, translation memories are susceptible to the old IBM teaching mantra of Garbage In, Garbage Out. Unless translation memories are properly maintained, the TM output, while producing statistically high match rates, cannot be relied upon to produce accurate and appropriate linguistic results.
Wordbank deploys the full suite of industry-standard TM tools to recover and reuse previously translated content for our clients, thus helping to reduce the translation costs and time to market, while ensuring consistency of message. These tools are integrated into our localization management system (Wordflow) and managed centrally by a skilled team of terminologists to ensure that they remain both current and of continual benefit to a quality localization process.
