Our business is growing, and we’re looking for a part-time, contract Accounts Assistant who is consciencious and has excellent attention to detail. As an Account Assistant working closely with our Accounts Manager and Finance Director as well as our wider teams, you’ll be: 

  • Monitoring the outgoings of Wordbank and ensuring that supplier invoices are in line with Purchase Orders.
  • Ensuring that all invoices received by Wordbank are entered into the finance system and paid when due.
  • Managing the sales ledger.
  • Covering absences for other roles within the Finance department.
  • Help document and maintain our finance procedures, updating and implementing them as necessary.


Schedule: 4 days a week including Fridays, 30 hours per week

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all client invoices are accurately entered into Access and reflect the correct client code, currency etc.
  • Issue new client codes and credit checks on new clients
  • Monitoring and tracking the receipt of payments
  • Escalating payment issues to the Accounts Manager as appropriate and then deciding on the most appropriate course of action.
  • Completing bank reconciliation as appropriate
  • Entering accounting journal entries as directed by Accounts Manager
  • Creating monthly accounts for both UK and US entities up to Management Accounts level, in the absence of the Head of Finance.
  • Ensuring that supplier invoices are matched to authorised Purchase Orders.
  • Addressing any queries regarding invoices with the supplier directly in the first instance and then escalating as appropriate.
  • Raising Purchase Orders for non-linguistic suppliers.
  • Entering all supplier invoices to Access when they are received and have been matched to an approved PO.
  • Ensuring that all supplier invoices received where the PO system is not relevant are approved by the relevant individual before entering them to Access.
  • Ensuring that any suppliers who are required to issue a credit note do so and then ensuring that these credit notes are applied to a future invoice.
  • Creating supplier payments on the on-line banking system and ensuring that the payments are approved by relevant individuals in a timely manner.
  • Working as part of the Finance Team to complete facilities management activities.


Strong academic background to A Level Standard. Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel) and knowledge of Google Sheets. Available 3-4 days per week for 6-9 months
A Bookkeeping qualification would be advantageous. Able to organize and prioritize both my own and other people’s workloads to ensure projects are completed on time and budget to achieve excellent results.
12 months’ experience as part of an accounts or credit control team.

Background in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable roles is ideal.

A good head for numbers to include quoting, invoice management and budgeting.
Excellent written and spoken English. Able to assimilate detail on an project specifics and communicate to relevant parties.
Highly numeric and a track record of successfully managing suppliers and associated financial tasks. You’re a flawless communicator in person and writing.

Self-confident, highly collaborative team player. 

Previous experience of working with a Purchase Order system. Passionate about creating and pursuing opportunity. Eager to learn new skills. 
Sound knowledge of creating accounts up to trial balance stage. Respectful of the perspective of others, you’re easy to work with, approachable and collaborative.
Proven ability to co-ordinate, liaise and collaborate with a number of internal stakeholders, delivering a high level of customer service.
Knowledge of accounting software: Access financial management software is ideal


£30,000/yr, £15.38/hr
