Timberland is a global icon. Originally built for hardworking New Englanders back in 1973, the classic yellow boot became the foundation for one of fashion’s truly great brands.

Today, Timberland positions itself as a head-to-toe lifestyle brand. Its stylish, classic products are suitable for the city, but at the same time boast outdoor credibility. The brand has stayed true to its proud heritage, while continuing to remain relevant and contemporary.

We first started working with Timberland in 2016. At the time they were struggling with their existing localization partner. Quality issues – including basic grammatical errors – plagued the brand across channels and languages. Turnaround times were tight and project visibility wasn’t always easy to get hold of.

Timberland needed a localization agency that could work quickly, at a moment’s notice, without sacrificing quality.

Our solution was simple. We offered Timberland the same level of consistent quality we provide all our partners – on budget and on time. And to do this, we needed to get set up properly.

To begin with, we built dedicated linguist teams for each language, so we could react quickly to localization requests. Each linguist spent time researching the brand’s history, identity and style, so they could understand what Timberland was trying to achieve with both its brand proposition and content offering.

Then, we applied our tried-and-tested three-stage translation service. The content is translated (for accuracy), edited (to bring the language to life) and proofread (for native fluency). Each of these steps is handled by a different linguist from the selected team.

The result is high-quality, on-brand content that is delivered on time, every time.

We currently localize website, CRM and external comms content for Timberland in French, German, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese.

‘Wordbank’s translations are accurate and well developed across a range of content and topics, including product descriptions, sustainability information, brand content and interviews with influencers.’

Since the beginning of our relationship with Timberland, we’re delighted to have started translating into additional languages and across more content types − such as emails, newsletters and web editorials. We’re proud to be one of the few content agencies who have remained a constant Timberland partner since 2016.

‘Wordbank has a great team that supports us with both larger projects and last-minute requests, while always assuring high-quality translations.’
